Program Description
As a student enters pre-school, he/she is introduced to library science and he/she continues in the program through sixth grade. They are instructed in a library setting with one on one assistance and use of the library for other class projects. Junior high students have a separate age appropriate/challenging library, however, they may also use the school's main library.
St. Hilary School library offers professional assistance as well as a vast selection of the best reviewed and award winning literature.
Students can check out library materials to use independently.
Students develop positive attitudes toward the use of the library that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits and productivity.
Main Themes/Skills
The following skills/concepts are addressed:
· enrichment of reading skills through story time for Grades Pre-K through 2nd
· learning how to locate materials in a library through the catalog systems
· location of information in various sources, especially fo research papers and projects
· appropriate use of study hall time for Grades 3 – 6
· developing life-long study habits conducive to an academic life
