Program Description
At St. Hilary School, students are introduced to computer in kindergarten and have individual and integrated technology based classes all the way through graduation. In the earliest grades, students learn basic computer functions using PCs and the windows operating sytem. They are introduced to typing, basic computer skills, and computer and internet based activites that tie in with their classroom curriculum.
In the middle grades, the emphasis shifts toward productivity applications. Students spend time refining their typing skills while learning imperative real world computer skills such as word processing, presentation creation and data gathering. Students spend time dicussing and exploring internet safety issues as well as working with and researching core-curriculum projects throughout the school year.
When students at St. Hilary reach the latter years in their academic instruction, technology is stressed as a tool which can enable them to learn, research, create, and organize their work better; rather than, an academic subject. This approach allows students to fully engage the technology they use in their daily lives to assist in every day tasks they will be exposed to later in high school, college and future careers. Students at this point of their education use typing, word processing, audio and visual presentations, and internet research regulary to complete daily assignments. St. Hilary is also blessed to have the Accelerated Math Program to provide better individualized instruction using technology along side regular math instruction.
Each classroom is equipped with at least two pcs and hosts a lab of 15 computers. A laptop cart with 10-15 laptops is also available full time for the upper grades.
St. Hilary School maintains a positive attitude toward the use of technology as a tool that supports lifelong learning, collaboration, organization and productivity.
